The insurance companies have so far registered up to 7,000 insurance-reported damages to buildings, contents and land.

The compensation for these damages that already have been reported are estimated to NOK 1.6 billion*, according to the Norwegian Natural Perils Pool. Currently, we don’t know what proportion is covered by the Natural Damage Insurance Scheme, and what proportion is covered by other insurances.

In addition, there are reported damages to, among other things, caravans and cars. The extreme weather «Hans» has also caused major damage to roads and other infrastructure that is not covered and therefore not included in our estimates.

- We emphasize that the estimates only apply to already reported damages and are provisional.

Many of the victims are now facing heavy burdens, says Ståle Solem Ingebrigtsen, Managing Director of the Norwegian Nature Perils Pool.

The insurance companies are helping customers as efficient as they can and have re-prioritised resources to assist the injured.

*The reported damages caused by floods and landslides during the extreme weather «Hans» are covered by the Natural Damage Insurance Scheme, while some are covered by the insurance companies' ordinary covers.

About the Norwegian Natural Perils Pool

Buildings and contents that are insured against fire damage through house and contents insurance are automatically also insured against natural damage. This follows from the Natural Damage Insurance Act. In the event of damage, customers contact their own insurance company.

Natural damage means damage that is directly caused by a natural disaster, such as landslides, storms, floods, storm surges, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tidal waves and meteorite impacts.

All insurance companies that offer fire insurance in Norway are members of the Norwegian Natural Perils Pool.
